Salmon River Diversion

A fish passage project under consideration at BC Hydro's Salmon River Diversion could be the most significant enhancement project involving the Campbell River Salmon Foundation (CRSF), as well as the first test of a new direction for BC Hydro.
A partnership including CRSF, Hydro, the Sayward Fish and Game Club, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the BC Ministry of Environment (MOE) is exploring ways to help the Salmon River's famous steelhead and coho get around the diversion.
Simms Creek Stewards Project
Summer 2008
The Simms Creek Stewards completed a project to add spawning gravel to Simms Creek downstream from the counting fence location to just upstream of the highway bridge. CRSF and the Campbell River Community Foundation were partners
We had noticed in previous years that chinook salmon would attempt to spawn in the area, so we thought that if we could enhance this area the creek might become more productive.
BC Hydro's Bridge Coastal Fish and Wildlife
Since the program's inception in 1999, has funded $3.8 million in projects on the Campbell River System. For 2009, BCRP's total funding for the 15 hydroelectric systems within the Coastal Region was $1.3 million.
BC Hydro's Bridge Coastal Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program is pleased to announce $382,000 in funding towards seven fish projects in the Campbell River System Hydroelectric Facilities
